Compare Cicada Audio Speaker Series

Each Cicada speaker family serves a different performance level. Selecting by series helps narrow the choices before comparing size, impedance, amplifier power and mounting requirements.

CX

Standard Coaxial Speakers

Full-range motorcycle speakers with an integrated tweeter and built-in crossover. CX models provide a straightforward amplified upgrade without requiring an external tweeter or crossover network.

  • 6.5-inch and 6×9-inch models
  • Available 2Ω and 4Ω versions
  • Integrated PEI dome tweeter
  • Built-in crossover
  • Low-profile motorcycle-focused design
CXX

Pro Coaxial Speakers

Higher-performance coaxial speakers using upgraded cone, tweeter, motor and basket technology for riders who need stronger output while retaining an integrated full-range design.

  • 5.25-inch, 6.5-inch, 6×9-inch and 8-inch
  • Available 2Ω and 4Ω versions
  • Kevlar cone construction
  • V8 dispersion-guide tweeter design
  • Built-in crossover
CH

Coaxial Horn Speakers

High-efficiency motorcycle speakers combining a mid-bass driver with an integrated aluminum-diaphragm horn tweeter for greater vocal projection and upper-frequency output.

  • Current 6.5-inch and 6×9-inch models
  • Available 2Ω and 4Ω versions
  • Aluminum horn-tweeter diaphragm
  • External crossover protection
  • High-output motorcycle applications
CHX

Pro Coaxial Horn Speakers

Cicada’s premium coaxial-horn platform combines substantial mid-bass capability, a high-output horn tweeter, external crossover control and heavy-duty motorcycle-ready construction.

  • 5.25-inch, 6.5-inch, 6×9-inch and 8-inch
  • Available 2Ω and 4Ω versions
  • Carbon Matrix Composite cone
  • Aluminum horn-tweeter diaphragm

Coaxial Versus Coaxial Horn Speakers

CX / CXX

Traditional Coaxial Design

A conventional coaxial places the tweeter in the center of the mid-bass cone. This creates a compact, self-contained full-range speaker with simpler wiring and installation.

  • Integrated tweeter
  • Built-in crossover
  • Compact full-range construction
  • Simpler amplifier-channel planning
  • Balanced everyday motorcycle audio
CH / CHX

Coaxial Horn Design

A coaxial horn combines a mid-bass driver with a more efficient compression-style horn tweeter. This supports stronger vocal and high-frequency projection in open-air riding conditions.

  • Aluminum-diaphragm horn tweeter
  • External crossover network
  • Greater upper-frequency projection
  • Higher amplifier-power capability
  • Designed for high-output systems
Louder is not automatically better: The correct speaker depends on available amplifier power, mounting clearance, riding volume, desired sound character and the rest of the audio system.

Choose 2-Ohm or 4-Ohm Speakers

2-Ohm Speaker Options

A 2-ohm speaker can allow a compatible amplifier channel to produce more power. The amplifier must be stable at the selected load, and wiring multiple speakers can reduce the final impedance further.

4-Ohm Speaker Options

A 4-ohm speaker generally creates a lighter amplifier load and can be the correct choice for bridged channels, multi-speaker wiring or amplifiers with specific minimum-impedance requirements.

Do not select by impedance alone: Verify amplifier stability, rated output, speaker count, channel assignment, series or parallel wiring and the final impedance presented to every channel.

Match the Speaker to the Motorcycle

1. Confirm Speaker Size

Verify the factory opening or aftermarket enclosure requires a 5.25-inch, 6.5-inch, 6×9-inch or 8-inch speaker.

2. Check Mounting Depth

Confirm clearance behind the speaker for the basket, magnet, terminals, wiring and any required adapter or spacer.

3. Verify Impedance

Match the 2-ohm or 4-ohm version to the amplifier’s supported load, channel configuration and complete speaker-wiring plan.

4. Match Amplifier Power

Compare the amplifier’s clean continuous output with the speaker’s RMS rating rather than relying on maximum-power figures.

5. Confirm Grille Clearance

Pro coaxial and horn designs can have larger tweeter assemblies. Verify factory grille and lid clearance before installation.

6. Plan Crossover Setup

Configure appropriate high-pass filtering and install all supplied external crossover networks before operating the speakers.

Cicada Coaxial Speaker FAQ

What is the difference between CX and CXX speakers?

CX is Cicada’s standard coaxial family. CXX is the pro coaxial platform with upgraded cone, motor, tweeter-dispersion and construction technology.

What is the difference between CH and CHX speakers?

Both combine a mid-bass driver with a horn tweeter. CHX is the higher-performance pro coaxial horn platform with greater power capability and upgraded materials.

Does every Cicada series come in every size?

No. CX is primarily offered in 6.5-inch and 6×9-inch sizes. CXX and CHX cover the broadest range. Current CH products focus on 6.5-inch and 6×9-inch models.

Are these speakers sold individually?

Most products in these four series are packaged and sold as matched pairs. Confirm the quantity shown on the individual product page.

Do coaxial speakers need separate tweeters?

No. CX, CXX, CH and CHX speakers already contain an integrated high-frequency driver.

Do horn speakers require an external crossover?

CH and CHX models commonly include an external crossover network. The supplied crossover must be installed according to the product instructions.

Should I choose 2-ohm or 4-ohm speakers?

Choose the impedance supported by the amplifier and complete wiring configuration. Do not assume the lower impedance is automatically the better choice.

Will every 6.5-inch speaker fit every 6.5-inch opening?

No. Mounting diameter, basket shape, depth, magnet size, terminal clearance and grille clearance can differ significantly.
