Category: Motorcycle Audio / Harley-Davidson Touring · Fits: 2024+ Road Glide, Street Glide, CVO (touring saddlebags)

This guide shows how we cut in and mount 6x9 saddlebag speakers on a 2024 Harley-Davidson Touring bike using a dedicated cut-in kit for a clean, factory-style finish.

If you want real highway volume without sacrificing a clean OEM look, 6x9s in the bags are one of the best upgrades you can do on the 2024 Touring platform. The difference comes down to accurate cuts and proper sealing. This article is the written companion to our install video.

Pro result = correct template alignment + clean cut + deburred edges + weather-tight sealing. Skip any of those and you risk leaks, rattles, and weak mid-bass.

Why 6x9 Cut-Ins Work So Well on 2024 Harley Touring

Riders upgrade bag speakers because stock systems struggle at speed. A properly installed 6x9 in the bag lid helps:

  • Increase overall output and clarity at highway speeds
  • Improve mid-bass response compared to smaller speakers
  • Keep a low, OEM-style look without bulky external pods
  • Set the bike up for future amp, DSP, and front-stage upgrades

Tools, Prep, and Parts

Basic Tools

  • Masking tape and marker for layout
  • Template supplied with your cut-in kit
  • Jigsaw, router, or rotary tool with correct blades/bits
  • Drill + bits for mounting holes
  • Deburring tool / file / sandpaper
  • Vacuum/blower for shavings

Install Materials

  • Cut-in kit / speaker lid kit (matched to your bags)
  • 6x9 speakers (coaxial, pro coaxial, or midrange)
  • Hardware supplied with the kit
  • Gaskets/foam rings or approved sealant per kit instructions
  • Speaker wire and connectors rated for vibration/weather
Measure twice, cut once. Then deburr and seal. That’s the difference between a pro install and a problem install.

Step-By-Step: 6x9 Cut-In Process

1) Protect the Bag and Align the Template

Tape the working area to protect the finish and give yourself a clean surface to mark. Place the template and confirm alignment front-to-back and side-to-side before tracing the cut line.

2) Make the Primary Cut

Drill a starter hole inside the cut area, then cut slowly along the template line. Keep the tool steady and avoid forcing corners. Rushing is how lids get chipped or over-cut.

3) Deburr, Test-Fit, and Refine

Clean the edge with a deburring tool/file and lightly sand as needed so the speaker and trim sit flat with no high spots. Test-fit before drilling any holes.

4) Drill Mounting Holes and Clean the Surface

With the trim ring or speaker in position, mark and drill the mounting holes. Remove all shavings, wipe the surface clean, and confirm nothing will interfere with the seal.

5) Seal and Final Assemble

Use the kit’s gasket/foam or approved sealant to keep the install weather-tight and air-tight. Tighten hardware evenly, secure wiring, and confirm polarity before buttoning everything up.

Why the Seal Matters for Sound

A leaky cut-in install will rattle, lose mid-bass, and can allow water intrusion. A clean, sealed mount improves reliability and helps the speaker move air the way it was designed to.

  • Stronger mid-bass and fuller overall sound
  • Reduced rattles and buzzes
  • Better weather resistance
  • Factory-style finished appearance
